Sites Concerned with Reading Curriculum Policy and Other Reading Initiatives
The
Connecticut Commission on Children
is a bipartison commission that oversees matters concerning children in
the state of Connecticut. Visit this site to learn more about the Commission
and it's activities, and to catch a glimpse of the tremendous efforts
statewide supporting and improving the lives of Connecticut's youngest
citizens. Updates regarding Early Reading Sucess Legislation and other
critical legislative strategies in Connecticut can be found in the COC
newsletter. Return to this site often, as there is always something new
of interest.
The
California
Reading Initiative provides professional development and state-wide
leadership in the area of reading. Examine their free dowloadable Reading/Language
Arts Framework and learn about what's happening with the Reading
Excellence Act in California.
Several
efforts in Oregon are targeting reading. The Oregon
Reading Initiative (ORI) has trained a cohort of Reading
Leaders who deliver professional development to schools in a research-based
early reading program. The University of Oregon is involved as host for
the Institute for the Development of
Educational Achievement (IDEA). Together, the ORI and IDEA have constructed
the Institute for Beginning
Reading, a pilot K-2
school teams project, much like our own ERS effort.
The
Texas
Center for Reading and Language Arts at the University of Texas at
Austin reflects extensive efforts to address both policy and professional
development. Be sure to visit the Center for Educator Development. Here
you may browse or download complete professional development guides. Phyllis
Hunter of Texas was among the speakers who presented before the CT
Early Reading Success Panel.
