How We Deliver Professional Development that
Leaves No teacher Behind

Haskins Literacy Initiative is the science of teaching reading.  Our approach to professional development was born out of years of quality reading research, conducted at Haskins Laboratories and other renowned institutions.

Haskins Laboratories is at the forefront of informing policy for reading instruction in the state of Connecticut. Haskins’ researchers were instrumental in assembling a nationally recognized panel of experts to create the Connecticut Blueprint for Reading Achievement.

Everything Teachers Need to Know about The Science of
Teaching Reading

HLI Builds the Background Knowledge that Informs Instruction
Our highly trained and experienced mentors translate three decades of reliable reading research, framing findings in meaningful ways so teachers can make informed decisions about what to teach when to which children.

Our approach is aimed at improving reading instruction for every child, not just kids at risk.
By understanding how children learn to read, common reasons why some struggle, and what kinds of instruction are most effective, teachers better appreciate why content, pacing and differentiation are critical to success in the classroom.
