Haskins Tech Note HT0004
Technical Resource Committee - minutes

Author: Richard Crane
Created: January 11, 2006

January 11, 2006, 10:00 AM

In attendance: Richard Crane [RC] (chair), David Braze [DB], Alice Faber [AF], Yvonne Manning-Jones [YMJ], Gerald McRoberts [GMR], Philip Rubin [PR], Joe Cardone [JC], Mike Dangelo [MD], and Samuel Nuakoh [SN].

  • Laboratory / Sound studios

  • Construction:  Acoustic Dimensions will be hired to oversee the remaining work by IAC. < Doug Honorof and Gordon Ramsey are continuing to investigate the sources of the 22 and 60Hz signals.

  • Building issues

  • Don Hailey should be emailed with any building maintenance and/or repair issues.  Susan Galli should be contacted for any problems with furniture. Phil Rubin asked that he be CC’ed.

Dave Braze asked about improving the blinds operation. We have a supply of chain for lengthening.  Don Hailey will look into the feasibility of reversing the blinds to switch the control cord side, and determine who will do the work.

At the next TRC meeting, we will discuss a schedule for ongoing maintenance of facility components not covered by our existing contract with Winstanley  and formerly performed by Phil Chagnon, including painting and carpets.

Don Hailey will check with Winstanley about a schedule for HVAC maintenance, including filter changes.

Room 142 will revert back to its planned use as a locked storage location for receiving packages and storing extra kitchen supplies.   A list for noting needed kitchen supplies has been posted on the kitchen bulletin board.  Tammy Ursini will be re-ordering supplies.

A discussion regarding guest access and security was held, sparked by increased traffic due to visitors to the art displays.  A decision was reached to limit public art space to hallways, and to remind staff to be aware of, and offer assistance to visitors.

  • Videoconferencing

An undetermined characteristic of our network is impeding full two-way videoconferencing. While that is being resolved, four data jacks (in Rooms 110, 122, 128, and 153) have been dedicated to this function and marked. Configuration instructions will be posted by each jack and notice sent to the Haskins mailing list.

The audiovisual rack for the Main conference is essentially ready: all equipment is installed, and Don and Sam are finishing up final tests. Some additional cables need to be purchased and/or installed. A set of instructions and “cheat sheets” for common configurations will need to be written up.

Alice Faber will look into the purchase of a brighter projector. Richard Crane has recommendations from Yale staff for “smart whiteboards”, including one that has its own projector, and will coordinate with her.
  • Laboratory / Sound studios

There is a meeting with involved Haskins people scheduled for December 7, 2005 to go over project status.
  • Servers

The new file server, with 3.2 terabytes of unformatted storage, should be shipped in the next few days.
  • Other Business

The new website, in its first pass, is almost ready for general release. It can be perused at http://www.haskins.yale.edu/newhaskins.
The next TRC meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. in the Main Conference Room.
