Created: March 15, 2006

March 15, 2006, 10:00 AM

In attendance: Richard Crane [RC] (chair), Alice Faber [AF], Donald Hailey [DH], Yvonne Manning-Jones [YMJ], Gerald McRoberts [GMR], Philip Rubin [PR], Susan Galli [SG], Joe Cardone [JC], Mike Dangelo [MD], and Samuel Nuakoh [SN], Einar Mencl [EM], Christine Shadle [CS], Dave Braze [DB], Doug Whalen [DW].

  • Laboratory / Sound studios

The subcontractor’s drilling templates for the patch panels are being checked by Doug Honorof. Ron Eligator has forwarded a proposed Scope of Work for a new contract with IAC to deal with the remaining anechoic chamber issues; it is being reviewed and revised in consultation with Gordon Ramsey and Christine Shadle.

Alice will be ordering a new Anthrocart, after confirming with Chris precisely what is needed.

Doug Whalen informed the group that the ultrasound timing synchronization apparently requires additional hardware, including an I/O interface that we may have to build. He is negotiating price with the supplier; Khalil Iskarous and Don Hailey will coordinate the technical issues.

Alice Faber pointed out that PIs need to give the Technical staff sufficient advance notice of requirements for supplies – we are close to running out of EMMA coils, for which there is a long lead time.

  • Building issues

It appears that WinStanley has not yet fixed the lack of heat in Room 169. Phil Rubin asked that Don Hailey follow up with Fred Mott to make sure this is attended to.

Joe Cardone mentioned that the office cleaners are on a month-to-month contract, and suggested going to a longer term. It was felt that the current company is doing a good job and respond promptly, so he will look at a longer term. The periodic cleaning previously discussed will begin with carpet cleaning of high-traffic areas late spring or early summer.

Building management confirmed to us that their policy they will escort visitors into Haskins space on weekends, but only if there is someone to receive them. This arose because of a question from last weekend with a visitor arriving late for an appointment.

Don Hailey and Richard Crane compiled a list of all window shades that would be easier to operate if reversed; Don will investigate how this can be done. They are also determining what extra material will be needed to lengthen the window shade pulls.
  • Servers and Software

We are awaiting new format internal cables for the new fileserver, before it can be put into production.

The network equipment rack rewiring is scheduled for Saturday, March 18th.
  • Databases

Considerable work has been done on the website, with the focus on getting additional content moved over from the old site.

A draft of a proposal for the data archiving workshop is being circulated.
  • Other Business

The date of the next meeting was set for April 26th

The next TRC meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 26th, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. in the Main Conference Room.
