Laboratory / Sound studios
The patch panels are still at the contractor, under review.
The Anthrocart for the Physio Lab has been received and assembled.
Additional sound testing is scheduled for May 1 by our acoustic consultant.
- Videoconferencing
Richard Crane reported on a conversation with the Yale person in charge of videoconferencing for the University. Our network connection speed is more than ample. The Apple iSight camera is probably the best desktop device. To step up in quality he recommended a camera unit by Tandberg. We are welcome to arrange a tour and demo of various systems they are using.
Einar reported on issues with videoconferencing with Rebecca Sandak in New York: her cable modem network access is bandwidth-limited to the point of un-usability.
Alice noted that this appears to be a common problem with cable modem service. Several people reported success with DSL-served locations.
Apple has requirements noted at this help document http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301050, suggesting a 100-500kpbs link speed is needed for acceptable use. Many speed tests are available at: http://www.dslreports.com/stest
- Building issues
Joe Cardone reported that a long-term cleaning contract is in place. Carpet cleaning will begin sometime in June.
Window shade pull extensions will be installed by Don Hailey.
Servers and Software
The new file server is almost ready to go into production. A replacement for a failed power supply unit was received and installed. Five projects have purchased space and their allocations are being set up.
The network equipment rack rewiring went according to plan on Saturday, March 18th
Databases
FileMaker 8 clients are being installed; once complete the database server will be updated.
The transfer of content to the new website is essentially complete. The site will be moved to the production server in the near future. Gerry asked about implementing a calendar scheduling application; Yvonne will look at options.
Other Business
Alice reported no problems with her software testing on the Intel iMac. PowerPC macs are still available for the short term, for people needing OS 9 applications; if so they should order soon.
The data archiving workshop is scheduled for May 9 at 10am. The workshop website is at http://xserve.haskins.yale.edu/pmwiki
The date of the next meeting was set for May 24.
The next TRC meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 24th, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. in the Main Conference Room. |
