Katherine S. Harris wins Acoustical Society of America 2007 Gold Medal

NEW HAVEN, CT—Haskins Laboratories is pleased to announce that Dr. Katherine Safford Harris is the winner of the 2007 Gold Medal of the Acoustical Society of AmericaKatherine S. Harris.

The Gold Medal, which was first presented in 1954, is now presented annually for contributions in acoustics. Dr. Harris received the award on June 6, 2007, at the 153rd meeting of the Acoustical Society of America in Salt Lake City, Utah. The citation read, in part:

“…for pioneering research and leadership in speech production
and dedicated service to the Society.”

ASA Gold Medal

This is the highest award in the field of acoustics. Dr. Harris, who is also a former President of the Acoustical Society of America, won the ASA Silver Medal in Speech Communication in 2005.

Haskins Laboratories was founded in 1935 by the late Dr. Caryl P. Haskins. This independent research institute has been in New Haven, Connecticut since 1970 when it formalized affiliations with Yale University and the University of Connecticut.
