Pugh featured at OAS symposium in Chile

NEW HAVEN, CT— Kenneth R. Pugh, Ph.D., President and Director of Research at Haskins Laboratories and Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the Yale University School of Medicine, was a featured speaker on May 28, 2009 at the Organization of American States Inter-American Symposium II: Policies and Strategies for the Child's Successful Transition to Socialization and School. This meeting was held from May 27-29 in Valparaiso, Chile.

Dr. Pugh delivered an invited lecture called, "School readiness and brain development: insights from neuroimaging research on early language development and language remediation." The moderator of the session was Elvira Sanchez, the Director of Communications of the World Association of Early Child Educators (WAECE), from Spain.

Haskins Laboratories was founded in 1935 by the late Dr. Caryl P. Haskins. This independent research institution has been in New Haven, Connecticut since 1970 when it formalized affiliations with Yale University and the University of Connecticut. The Laboratories' primary research focus is on the science of the spoken and written word.
