Haskins Laboratories Appoints New CFO

NEW HAVEN —Haskins Laboratories, an independent research institute in New Haven, Connecticut, has appointed Joseph P. Cardone as its first chief financial officer in its 70-year history. Recent growth in the Laboratories, including a major move to newly designed , state-of-the-art facilities at 300 George Street, prompted Haskins President Carol Fowler to create this new position. Fowler notes, “The Laboratories has grown larger and more diverse in the last few years, and, as a consequence, we confront new challenges in our financial organization and planning. We are very pleased to have brought Joe Cardone on board to provide leadership in these matters.”      Joseph P. Cardone comes to Haskins with nearly 30 years of experience in both the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors that encompasses auditing, accounting, financial reporting and analysis, human resources, operations and strategic planning. His most recent position was Vice President of Finance and Administration for The Children’s Village, a $40M foster-care organization providing programs and services for over 2,500 families and children each year, and located in Dobbs Ferry, New York. Prior to this position, he had established his own financial consulting business following almost 5 years at Smith Corona Corporation as Director of International Finance. Other prior company experience in his career includes PepsiCo, Canada Dry, and Ellesse USA, Inc. Mr. Cardone has an MBA in Finance and Marketing from Fordham University, New York, and is currently on the Board of Directors of the Discovery Museum in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
    As Fairfield residents, Mr. Cardone and his wife, Rose, enjoy raising their twins, Kathryn and Andrew, both Fairfield Woods Middle School students.      Haskins Laboratories was founded in 1935 by the late Dr. Caryl P. Haskins. This independent research institute has been in New Haven, Connecticut since 1970 when it formalized affiliations with Yale University and the University of Connecticut. The Laboratories’ primary research focus is on the science of the spoken and written word.
