Abstract For Standard Thai, earlier acoustic (Lisker and Abramson, 1964, Abramson, 1989) and perceptual (Lisker and Abramson 1970, Abramson and Lisker 1970) studies revealed the importance of the temporal control of the laryngeal aperture (the glottis) in differentiating the categories of stop consonants traditionally called voiced, voiceless unaspirated, and voiceless aspirated.
