| Abstract | [Introduction] In this short history of Haskins Laboratories we have emphasized the abiding themes of the Laboratories’ work, and the lines of research for which they are best known, although this tends to shift the emphasis towards older studies and is done at the expense of particular investigations. This focus leaves us without a specific spot to emphasize Haskins’ most significant contribution: It has been for about fifty years a place where a substantial group of investigators with expertise in different aspects of speech and language production and perception could work together, in an environment with substantial and often innovative technical resources. |
