Abstract The task-dynamic model of speech production is reviewed, and current developments that incorporate a recurrent network dynamics of intergestural timing are described. Four sets of data are considered that provide a set of temporal patterning benchmarks for the evaluation of any model of intergestural dynamics. These benchmarks are being used to evaluate and to guide the development of the extended task-dynamic model.
