| Abstract | Disputes the claim by J. Morais et al (see PA, Vol 75:35331) that reading exposure is essential for segmental awareness and suggests that paradigmatic analysis in inflectional languages (e.g., English, French, Hebrew) provide a method for developing segmental awareness. It is also noted that Japanese children exhibit segmental awareness in the absence of an alphabetic orthography. |
