A-148 Repository for the storage and distribution of large-scale brain imaging and physiological data sets
Philip Rubin; The Lucius N. Littauer Foundation, Inc.

Haskins Laboratories is developing a computer-based repository for the storage and distribution of large-scale brain imaging and physiological datasets. This networked data repository and duplication system will allow for the storage of these datasets and their inexpensive and rapid duplication as CDs/DVDs, with access available to our research collaborators and other interested scientists. Making our data accessible to the broader scientific community will make it easier to support collaborations that take place at multiple research sites and will also help us to comply with a new data-sharing requirement mandated by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This approach is also compatible with the intentions of the National Science Foundation (NSF) and other agencies to make data, where and when possible, freely available. The system is in the final stages of assembly and includes the following components: a Linux-based, 14 terabyte Aberdeen data storage server (with room for 7 terabytes of future disk expansion), a Quantum magnetic tape server and linear tape option 3-drive tape system for the backup of datasets, and a Primera Bravo DVD Duplicator/Printer. Total award: $25,000.
