Regular Days at Haskins: Monday - Friday
Margie Gillis has been teaching children of all ages to read for over 30 years. She became interested in reading while at the University of Connecticut where she studied with Isabelle Liberman. She was a special educator in public and private schools for 15 years during which time she became certified as an Academic Language Therapist. Subsequently, she received her Doctorate of Education from the University of Louisville in Special Education where she began her work training teachers of reading. In 2000 she became an Early Reading Success Fellow at Haskins Laboratories. She is currently the Director of Haskins Literacy Initiative, which promotes the science of teaching reading through professional development and classroom support for teachers. She also works as a Haskins Mentor in Stamford at the International School at Rogers Magnet.
